LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — D.C. is America’s third smartest large city, according to rankings released Tuesday by the real estate blog Movoto.com.

Weighing criteria such as resident education level, public school rankings and the number of colleges, libraries, media outlets and museums per capita, Movoto says the District comes in right behind Pittsburgh and Orlando.

D.C. only snagged a top 10 slot in two of the individual categories, but its relatively high rankings in the other areas helped it reach the third overall spot on the list. Movoto’s stats show that D.C. has the most museums per capita of any city (the Smithsonian Institution alone has 15 within city limits), and it comes in 7th for number of residents with advanced education degrees.

But knowledge comes with a price.

Another recent rankings list, compiled by the credit monitoring company Credit Karma, shows that D.C. residents have the highest student loan debt in the country, an average of about $45,730. Maryland comes in right behind the District, with an average student loan burden of about $33,660. The U.S. average is about $29,000.
